Institution authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council: Does not apply to public institutions in Washington State, Independent Colleges of Washington, continuously exempt institutions, religiously exempt institutions, or legislatively endorsed colleges (definitions and examples can be found at the above hyperlink)
Private career school licensed by the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board
Cosmetology school licensed by the Department of Licensing

If you attended a licensed private career school, cosmetology school, or another qualifying institution, you may be able to recover some of your lost tuition or fees in certain situations including:

Abrupt school closure
Unfair business practices
Or another loss of tuition or fees due to discontinued training or classes at a cosmetology school

You may be able to get relief for lost tuition or fees under the following circumstances:

You attended one of the schools described above and suffered losses related to the school’s abrupt closure
You attended a school authorized by WSAC or licensed by the Workforce Board and suffered a loss of tuition or fees as a result of an unfair business practice (for example, the school provided misleading or deceptive information).
You attended a cosmetology school licensed by the DOL and suffered a loss of tuition or fees because instruction was discontinued after training began or a class was cancelled

What is the process to obtain tuition relief if I think I’m eligible?

If you think you are eligible for state-based tuition recovery, the first step is to go through the complaint resolution process at your school (if the school is still operating). If you are still not satisfied after exhausting your complaint options at the school, you can submit a complaint to the Washington State Student Complaint Portal.
